Overview

Description of 3M industrial spray adhesives

Spray adhesives come in an aerosol can, making them easy to use and maneuver. They can provide permanent bonding or be repositionable, with a wide range of applications such as bonding photos, foams, decorative fabrics, and expanded polystyrene.

This type of adhesive is classified as flexible and is non-structural. Bonding occurs through the evaporation of the solvent.

There are considerations for open time (the time after applying the adhesive during which bonding can occur), which are noted in the technical data sheets.

Depending on the references, a single and/or double coating may be required.

For a quick reference, here’s a summary of the main applications for each product:

It is important to note that some of these adhesive references are available in pressurized canisters for large-volume industrial applications.

How to use a 3M aerosol?

Here’s a summary table outlining the steps for optimal use of a 3M spray adhesive:

    StepsUsage Procedure

    Step 1

Align the arrow on the nozzle with the black dot on the aerosol.

For aerosols with multiple flow options, select the desired flow rate (L: Low, M: Medium, H: High).

Shake the aerosol well and purge the nozzle by spraying briefly into the air.

    Step 2

Spray at a 90-degree angle and 20 centimeters from the surface to be bonded.

For better edge adhesion, first spray around the substrate.

Then, lightly spray while moving the nozzle at a consistent speed to cover the surface with a uniform layer.

If double coating is required, repeat the same operation for the second substrate.

    Step 3

Wait a few seconds or minutes according to the open time

Perform the assembly and apply uniform pressure from the center outward to achieve good adhesion.

    Step 4

To prevent the nozzle from clogging, at the end of each usage day, turn the aerosol upside down and press the nozzle until no adhesive remains.
