What are the characteristics of the 3M 90 spray adhesive?
How to bond plastic? Plastics, such as polyethylene or polypropylene, have low surface energy and are therefore very difficult to bond.
ADEZIF offers a range of special adhesive tapes for plastics, as well as two-component adhesives and an aerosol adhesive from the 3M brand: the 3M 90.
Advantages:
Extremely high strength on various substrates such as plastics (PE, PP, etc.), metals, wood, leather, laminate, concrete, foams (similar to the 3M 74 foam spray), fabrics (the versatile 3M 77 may also be suitable!), etc. For bonding vinyl or rubber, consider using the 3M 80 reference, which is more appropriate.
Similar to a traditional contact adhesive applied with a brush, according to the technical data sheet from 3M. This demonstrates how powerful this adhesive is among the aerosol range offered by 3M.
Transparent
Moisture and heat resistance up to 71°C
Quick adhesion
Double application recommended to maximize performance. The drying is fast but still allows for adjustment and repositioning of materials. Assemblies should be completed within 10-15 minutes after application.
Lace spray type, meaning controlled and precise without fog: its nozzle has two settings, L (Low) and H (High), allowing for spray width adjustment.
What are its applications?
This 3M spray adhesive is quite versatile, but its specific formulation makes it ideal for bonding notoriously difficult materials such as plastics. For temporary assemblies, 3M has adapted the adhesive used on its Post-Its into aerosol form with the 3M 75.
Examples of applications:
- Bonding decorative laminate panels to tables, cabinets, shelves
- Attaching edges to countertops
- Fixing plastic lettering on wood
- Bonding PE, PP plastics to wood, metals, and other materials
- Bonding fabrics to particle boards
- ...
Usage tips
The 3M 90 does not need to be shaken before use. It is a ready-to-use adhesive, and a finger press is sufficient to achieve excellent bonding.
- A double application is highly recommended to maximize adhesion.
- Spray from 12-18 cm on both surfaces to be bonded, taking care not to be near a heat source as this product is highly flammable.
- Allow to dry for a few minutes, then assemble and reposition if necessary.
- Use an applicator roller to apply pressure on the final assembly.
- Purge the aerosol to prevent the nozzle from clogging: turn the aerosol upside down and spray until no adhesive comes out.
- If bonding two large surfaces, consider using the 3M 76 special for PE and PP, which has a longer open time.
