Characteristics of 3M 80 Contact Adhesive Spray
PVC/vinyl and rubber are two soft materials that are difficult to bond, often presenting challenges for our clients.
ADEZIF offers various types of adhesives: in pots or in spray form under the reference 3M 80 from the Scotch-Weld range by 3M.
Made from neoprene, it is called "contact adhesive" because, unlike other spray adhesives, once the assembly is completed, the pieces cannot be readjusted.
Main Characteristics:
Excellent resistance to plasticizers: allows for bonding on PVC or vinyl.
Quick-setting contact adhesive for fast, durable performance and a permanent bond.
Excellent temperature stability up to 93°C: among 3M's aerosol adhesives, it has the best heat resistance. For stability up to 150°C, consult the data sheet for the 3M pot contact adhesive.
Excellent adhesion to various materials:
PVC, soft or rigid vinyl
Numerous plastics: solid polystyrene, PU foam, vinyl foam. For plastics like PE and PP, the 3M 90 spray adhesive is ideal!
Rubber (except EPDM - ethylene propylene diene monomer)
Metal
Wood
Leather: genuine leather and synthetic leather like skai
Outstanding resistance to environmental conditions and static stress.
Application Method:
Double bonding is required: the following section provides tips for application.
Spray in lacing patterns with a fixed-flow nozzle, producing minimal spray mist, which is advantageous.
Examples of Applications
Bonding rigid PVC to rigid PVC
Attaching rubber insulation materials to pipes
Bonding stainless steel panels and metal stiffeners
Repairing pool covers
Repairing rubber or vinyl materials
Fixing materials for sealing or draft excluders
If your application does not match any of the examples mentioned, other 3M aerosols can surely address your needs (bonding foam, fixing PP or PE plastics, assembling fabric, adhering/removing/reapplying as needed, etc.). Feel free to consult us.
Tips for Proper Use
Shake the spray can before use.
As stated earlier, both substrates must be individually coated with enough time for solvent evaporation. As long as the adhesive sticks to your finger, evaporation is not complete. The drying time is approximately 3 minutes, and assembly must occur between 3 and 30 minutes maximum.
Once drying is complete, the two substrates are bonded immediately and permanently.
Remember to purge the aerosol after use: turn the can upside down and spray until no adhesive comes out of the nozzle.
