Overview

What are the features of 3M 77 spray adhesive?

3M 77 comes in a 500 ml aerosol can and provides a precise and uniform lace spray application.

Part of the 3M Scotch-Weld series, 3M 77 is odorless and highly versatile (“multipurpose” is indicated on the aerosol label). It offers a fast tack time, drying within 15 seconds to 1 minute. Despite its high initial bond, the open time (15 seconds to 15 minutes) allows for accurate positioning of materials before full adhesion.

Its high adhesive power creates a strong, lasting bond for most lightweight materials. 3M 77 can be used on various substrates, including paper, fabric, felt, aluminum, carpet, cardboard, upholstery foam, plastic (PMMA, PC), painted and unpainted metals, expanded polystyrene, and more. These materials can be bonded to themselves or to different surfaces.

For fabric applications, the adhesive minimally penetrates without staining, remaining on the fabric surface without soaking through.

3M 77’s coverage is extensive at 12 m² per aerosol and can be used for single or double coating. Notably, it is the only spray adhesive suitable for bonding polystyrene foam. For other materials, such as PE or PP, consider 3M 76, and for PVC, 3M 80 is recommended.

          Applications

3M 77 is the most versatile adhesive among 3M spray adhesives, bonding nearly any material. The ideal application is fabric bonding, but it is also suitable for a range of lightweight substrates.

    Examples of applications:

    • Bonding all types of fabric (e.g., polyester, upholstery)

    • Display construction

    • Creating polystyrene prototypes

    • Decorative films and fabric assemblies

    • Attaching labels to cardboard

    • Scrapbooking

    • Securing backdrops in photo studios

    • Polystyrene foam assembly for packaging

    • Laminate and decorative veneer bonding

    • Fastening fiberglass insulation and drywall corner beads

    • Bonding insulation materials to metal

Usage tips for optimal application of 3M 77

3M packaging includes clear pictograms outlining key product advantages and features. Refer to these as needed.

    • Spray at 12-18 cm from the surface, let it dry for 10 to 30 seconds

    • Assemble the surfaces and adjust positioning if necessary

    • Press firmly for strong adhesion

    • Purge the aerosol after use: invert the can and spray until no more adhesive is released

    • The nozzle marker indicates where the tube is in the can's bottom. When the spray is almost finished, tilt the can toward the marker to use the remaining adhesive.
