      Description of 3M 433

3M 433 is a highly technical single-sided aluminum tape that acts as a thermal protector, thermal conductor, and heat reflector.

Manufactured by 3M, its aluminum backing and silicone adhesive make it resistant to high temperatures, up to 316°C at peak.

It is one of the few products, along with 3M 363 aluminized glass fabric tape, that can withstand such high temperatures.

This thermal tape is flame-resistant (compliant with FAR 25853a standard): it is not destroyed by combustion and does not sustain combustion. For this reason, it is used in applications that require significant thermal insulation.

      What are its applications?

This high-temperature aluminum tape has numerous applications involving maintenance, repair, insulation, jointing, and thermal protection of surfaces exposed to high temperatures:

• heat-reflective covering on thermal insulation walls, piping, and engine parts in cars or hot zones

• wrapping around heating elements to ensure proper heat distribution

• moisture barrier around doors or windows to prevent condensation on glass

• thermal protection inside an oven, keeping the door and handle cool

• repairing tears or damage to insulating covers

• securing insulation in industrial hot air ducts

• joining aluminum coils and securing the last coil before annealing

• metal masking before plastic coating

• improving heating and cooling efficiency through proper sealing and heat resistance

      Product features and client benefits

The aluminum backing is an excellent barrier against water, dust, and chemicals. Thermally conductive, it dissipates heat to protect heat-sensitive materials such as plastics.

Its highly conformable nature allows it to wrap easily around piping or other surfaces, whether smooth or irregular, straight or curved. It tears easily by hand.

The silicone adhesive adheres to many surfaces, including difficult-to-stick surfaces such as silicone-treated areas. It also provides exceptional heat resistance, polymerizing under heat.

This product is flame-retardant and complies with FAR 25853a.

For applications requiring higher tensile strength, tear resistance, and puncture resistance, the 3M 363 aluminized glass fabric tape is recommended.
