Overview

          Description of 3M Scotch-Weld 10 neoprene adhesive

The Scotch-Weld 3M 10 is a neoprene adhesive developed by 3M, solvent-based and formulated without toluene, which has been replaced by a less toxic solvent (acetate).

It is characterized by rapid solvent evaporation while offering a long open working time, allowing the adhesive to be applied over large surfaces.

This neoprene adhesive, also known as “contact adhesive,” features very high initial adhesion and is applied exclusively using the double coating method on surfaces.

Once the adhesive is applied, it is necessary to wait until the touch is dry for it to achieve its performance. The user can then wait about 4 hours before the final assembly of the two surfaces.

Its very low viscosity and highly liquid consistency make it suitable for both non-porous and porous surfaces, requiring the application of two successive coats of adhesive on porous materials.

The neoprene adhesive SW 10 has excellent resistance to water and oil and can be applied using:

    • A brush: preferably with natural animal hair, not nylon or synthetic brushes.

    • A spatula.

    • A roller: dedicated to glycerol paints.

    • A spray gun.

It complies with the American specification MMM-A-121 regarding adhesives involved in bonding synthetic rubber to steel.

    Main applications include:

    • Bonding laminated panels, decorative materials, wood.

    • Bonding veneers to sheets, rubbers, leathers, and textiles.
