Overview

Description of 3M 1300L TF contact adhesive for rubber

The Scotch-Weld 3M 1300L TF is a neoprene adhesive developed by 3M, commonly referred to as contact adhesive due to its very high initial adhesion. It is solvent-based but is toluene-free (TF = Toluene Free), replacing the toxic solvent with acetate. The odor of this product is less bothersome to the operator compared to older adhesives containing toluene.

This adhesive is in a liquid form and must be applied using a double coating method: after applying the adhesive by spraying or brushing on each surface to be bonded, you should wait until the adhesive no longer sticks to your finger (approximately 5 minutes) before assembling the two surfaces. No adjustments will be possible after bonding, highlighting the need to align the assembly properly before adhesive application.

The 3M 1300L TF adhesive exhibits excellent performance up to 150°C, outstanding resistance to water, and good aging properties, though it has low resistance to oils and petroleum products.

Its primary application is bonding rubbers (both natural and synthetic), either to themselves or to substrates such as metals, wood, or plastics. It is commonly used for bonding seals.

This adhesive complies with the American specification MMM-A-121, which pertains to adhesives used in bonding synthetic rubber to steel.
