      What are the characteristics of 3M DP490?

The 3M DP490 is a two-component epoxy adhesive that belongs to the range of structural epoxy adhesives manufactured by 3M.

It features unmatched mechanical properties that make it a flagship product, safe for use even in harsh environments, with:

• High shear resistance, including at -55°C, 23°C, and 80°C.

• Significant peel resistance.

• Good resistance to impacts and shocks.

• Excellent aging properties, resulting in outstanding durability.

• Temperature resistance up to 120°C.

Being a tough adhesive, it ensures exceptional stability, even under dynamic and static load conditions. The resulting assembly is classified as structural and performs exceptionally well in all respects.

Polymerization occurs at room temperature, which can be accelerated by applying heat (oven or infrared).

The curing time is relatively fast and varies around 90 minutes. The handling time at 23°C is approximately 4 hours.

The compatible substrates for this product are numerous, including:

• Metal (galvanized steel, cold-rolled steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, bronze)

• Glass

• Ceramics

• High surface energy plastics such as ABS, PMMA, polycarbonate

• Composite materials

• FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic)

• Rubber

It comes in a thick paste form (thixotropic), which does not flow and can thus be applied to vertical or inclined surfaces.

      How to apply it?

It is packaged in a cartridge suitable for the EPX adhesive applicator gun, which can be either manual or pneumatic.

This system requires two accessories to enable dosing, mixing, and applying the two components in a single operation:

• A 2:1 piston

• A mixing nozzle

This high-quality product is suitable for numerous uses. One specific application is its performance on composite products, such as composite bicycle frames.
