Overview

What are the characteristics of 3M DP190?

The 3M DP190 is a two-component epoxy adhesive with medium fluidity, developed by 3M. Its main characteristic is its high flexibility and softness, which provide excellent resistance to shear and peel.

It is frequently used for bonding materials with different thermal expansion coefficients.

Being a flexible adhesive, it offers very good adhesion to a wide range of materials, such as:

    • Rubbers

    • High surface energy plastics like polycarbonate, ABS, and acrylic

    • Wood

    • Metals

    • Ceramics

It polymerizes at room temperature, and its curing can be accelerated when the temperature is raised to 120°C.

The long open time is an advantage because it allows the user to properly position the pieces before the adhesive begins to set.

The flexibility and softness of this product provide great resistance to dynamic shocks, vibrations, and twisting during the final assembly. Additionally, its formulation contributes to excellent aging resistance.

Another specific feature is that it meets UL certification.

It is important to emphasize that before any bonding, the surfaces must be dry, clean, and free from dust, dirt, or grease. This step should not be taken lightly as it ensures a solid and durable bond

          How to apply it?

Both the 50 ml and 400 ml cartridges are compatible with the EPX adhesive applicator gun. This system allows for dosing, mixing, and applying in a single operation, which can be either manual or pneumatic.

The user then adapts a 1:1 piston, a mixing nozzle, and applies both components in a single action.

For the two-liter packaging, it can be spread manually using a spatula or a knife.

          What are its applications?

Due to its flexibility, this adhesive is used in all applications where softness and peel resistance are required.

Here are a few examples of usage:

    • Bonding metal to glass
    • Attaching a seat trim to an ABS molded structure
