      Description of 3M 4298 UV Primer

The 3M 4298 UV primer is an adhesion promoter from the Scotch Mount brand, manufactured by 3M, applied before using adhesive tape or glue to enhance adhesive performance. The selected adhesive adheres better, and the durability of the assembly is improved.

• Surface Compatibility: The 3M 4298 UV primer is used on most low surface energy materials, such as polypropylene (PP), PP/EPDM blends, hard-to-bond powder-coated surfaces, polyethylene (PE), thermoplastic olefins (TPO), thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), PET, ABS, EVA, and Nylon.

• Important Note: It is not recommended for use on PVC.

      What Are Its Applications?

• Adhesion Promotion: Formulated to be applied as a primer before using acrylic tapes or foams, such as VHB.

• Automotive Industry: The 3M 4298 UV primer is widely used in the automotive sector to prepare surfaces for adhesive bonding on painted metal with epoxy powder coating, as well as on sealing profiles in vehicles and on dashboards and interior trims.

• Signage: It can also be applied to polypropylene signage panels before bonding with adhesives like VHB.

      Product Characteristics and Customer Benefits

• Recommended Application Thickness: 50 µm. This primer has the significant advantage of containing a fluorescent dye that allows for verification, using a UV lamp, that the primer has been properly applied over the desired surface.

• Quick Drying Time: Once applied, it has a rapid drying time and must be dry before applying the adhesive, which should ideally be done within one hour.
