      Characteristics of DP 8405

The DP 8405 is a two-component acrylic adhesive launched in 2014 by 3M, representing a new generation due to its recent and advanced formulation.

The primary difference between this adhesive and traditional acrylic adhesives is its quick performance increase. A structural bond can be achieved in just 18-20 minutes, providing sufficient adhesive strength and cohesive force for permanent bonding of materials.

This allows for stronger assemblies, even under increasingly demanding conditions.

Its low odor greatly enhances user comfort and provides protection by eliminating strong adhesive smells. The adhesive is tough, flexible, and rigid, offering high peel and shear strength along with three times greater impact and shock resistance compared to conventional acrylic adhesives.

It has a medium viscosity and a short open time, making it a time-efficient solution.

Other features include:

• Suitable for powder coating

• Solvent-free and low in halogens

• Contains 250 µm glass beads for joint thickness control

• Performs well on powder-coated surfaces and adheres to metals, glass, wood, and high surface energy plastics (especially polycarbonate, PMMA, ABS). However, it is not suitable for low surface energy plastics like PE and PP.

• Inflammable and UL certified

• 18-month shelf life at room temperature, significantly reducing disposal costs for expired stock (compared to 6 months at 4°C for traditional acrylic adhesives).

      How to apply it

Before application, ensure that the surface is clean, removing all dirt, grease, oils, and dust. Please refer to our surface preparation guide before bonding.

Application equipment required:

• A manual EPX applicator gun for 45 ml cartridges or a pneumatic applicator for 490 ml cartridges. 
• A 10/1 piston
• A mixing nozzle to ensure the two components mix properly.
