Description of 3M DP8010
The Scotch-Weld DP 8010 is a two-component acrylic adhesive developed by 3M, known for its toughness and the same properties as the 3M DP 8005. Both products are ideal for bonding low surface energy plastics that are generally considered hard to bond, such as:
EPDM
Polyolefins
Polypropylene
Polyethylene
Epoxy powder coatings
It bonds well with other materials, including metals, alloys, glass, and wood, enabling a strong, structural bond between plastics or different substrates.
Its chemical resistance is very good except with toluene.
Applications
Some possible uses include:
- Securing safety mirrors
- Cosmetic product assembly
- For the central drum of a washing machine made of glass-fiber-reinforced PP
- Assembly of internal car parts in PU on PP dashboards
- Assembling plastic structures on boats
Product features and customer advantages
Key differences from the 3M DP8005:
Longer work life at 23°C: 10-12 minutes (compared to 2.5-3 minutes for DP8005). This makes it easier to handle and allows more time for final positioning of parts before the adhesive sets.
Shorter handling time at 23°C: 90-120 minutes (compared to 120-180 minutes for DP8005). Ideally, waiting 24 hours before applying stress allows the adhesive to reach its full strength.
Compatibility with PTFE.
Minimal surface treatment is required, which offers significant time and productivity benefits.
Usage tips
The DP8010 is applied using a manual EPX applicator gun. This two-component product has a 10:1 volume mixing ratio, requiring a suitable piston.
A mixing nozzle is then used to ensure the correct mixing of both components.
