Description of Sikaflex 291i, PU sealant for marine construction
The Sikaflex 291i sealant is a single-component polyurethane sealant from the Sikaflex range by Sika.
This versatile product is used for bonding and sealing in marine construction. It creates durable, 100% waterproof, and flexible sealing joints between multiple materials of different natures.
It is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and the associated compression and expansion stresses.
The Sikaflex 291i sealant is resistant to water (including seawater, hard water, and wastewater), as well as diluted detergents and weak acids. However, it does not resist organic acids, alcohol, concentrated acidic and basic solutions, or solvents.
It can be applied to various substrates such as untreated wood, non-ferrous metals, aluminum, anodized aluminum, galvanized steel, ABS/PVC, glass-reinforced polyester (GRP), and acrylic paints.
It can also be painted.
Applications:
The Sikaflex 291i sealant is suitable for multiple applications in marine construction and repair:
Installation and sealing of fittings subjected to low mechanical stresses, such as deck equipment like fans and hatches, which need to be watertight without significant tensile forces.
Bonding of sacrificial anodes: These raw metal blocks are fixed to steel hulls to reduce the effects of galvanic corrosion. They are mechanically attached from the inside of the hull. To prevent water infiltration, it is essential to create an external sealing joint. Sikaflex 291i is ideal for this purpose.
Bonding decorative panels and countertops: These panels may serve aesthetic purposes or be used as actual work surfaces, such as in kitchens. In any case, flexible bonding is a simple and durable fastening method that avoids the aesthetic drawbacks of mechanical fixings.
Bonding patterned deck panels: This assembly is done without using screws or bolts that could lead to water infiltration and cause damage. Once applied and cured, the adhesive under the panels ensures additional watertightness resistant to harsh weather conditions.
Bonding non-slip deck coverings.
