Overview

Description of the Sikaflex 223 sealant

The Sikaflex 223 sealant (formerly known as 222i) is a single-component polyurethane sealant from the Sikaflex range by Sika.

It is formulated to be highly resistant to UV, making it ideal for outdoor use. It is used for bonding and sealing joints that are highly exposed to UV rays, such as finishing joints in bodywork, plexiglass glazing, and joinery.

Its adhesion is effective on various substrates, including wood panels, metals like aluminum and stainless steel, plastics like GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), plastic glazing (PMMA, PC), ceramic materials, and most paints.

          Applications

The Sikaflex 223 sealant is frequently used in the manufacturing of vehicles and transport means (such as caravans and camper vans) to create finishing joints on roofs, for example.

Additionally, it meets the AFNOR XP-P 23 310 standard: "Windows, French doors, fixed frames, and wooden joinery – Installation of glazing in the workshop."

          Product characteristics and customer benefits:

This product is resistant to water (including seawater, hard water, and wastewater), as well as to diluted detergents and weak acids. However, it does not resist organic acids, alcohol, concentrated acidic and basic solutions, or solvents.

Its water-tightness is highly appreciated, especially for outdoor applications exposed to the elements.

    Important:

    • Joint smoothing must be done before skin formation.
    • Painting (if necessary) should be done after skin formation.

To accelerate the curing of the sealant, a pouch filled with Sika Booster Paste, containing the necessary amount of water for curing, can be attached to the sealant outlet, independently of the humidity in the air.

The curing speed can be affected by ambient temperature. The final characteristics of the adhesive after complete curing will not differ whether polymerization was induced by the booster paste or by ambient humidity.
