Description of Sika Booster
The Sika Booster paste is a polymerization accelerator manufactured by Sika for single-component polyurethane adhesives from the Sikaflex brand.
It attaches to the end of the cartridge with a standard static mixer (6 or 10 elements depending on the packaging), and the extrusion forms a bead of sealant where the adhesive and accelerator are well mixed. It is also available in bulk packaging for use with automatic mixing and extrusion machines.
It is ideal for structural assemblies subjected to high stresses where quick high strength is desired.
It is often used for large assemblies or when application conditions occur in very dry areas where the humidity in the air is insufficient for optimal and rapid polymerization of the sealant.
The single-component PU adhesive, in combination with the Sika Booster paste, therefore polymerizes independently of atmospheric conditions and directly within the bead of sealant.
Once cured, the "sealant and accelerator mix" exhibits almost the same specifications as the sealant that has polymerized conventionally with ambient humidity.
It is used, for example, in combination with Sikaflex 254 and Sikaflex 265 (it is necessary to slightly heat the Sikaflex 265: best results are obtained at a temperature of 60 °C).
