Characteristics of Krylex KI 001 infiltrant and its role in 3D printing

The Krylex KI 001 is a one-component cyanoacrylate adhesive developed by Krylex, used in the final phase of 3D printing an object (model, prototype, etc.). It is also referred to as an "infiltrant."

3D printing utilizes various techniques and materials. A common technique involves adding different melted materials extruded through a nozzle to print the object layer by layer.

The 3D-printed object is then submerged in a bath filled with Krylex KI 001 infiltrant, which, due to its very low viscosity, enables two essential steps:

    1. The infiltrant penetrates all the pores of the object's surface, rigidifying, reinforcing, and solidifying the piece, providing long-lasting durability. Cavities and other porosities are completely filled by infiltration to approximately 3 mm deep without leaving a thick film on the surface, with a fixation time of about 15 minutes.

    2. It leaves a transparent film on the surface that protects the object and gives it a glossy finish. Colors are perfectly rendered. This is why the Krylex KI 001 adhesive is commonly referred to as an “infiltration agent.”

Cyanoacrylate adhesives typically have a strong odor; however, the Krylex KI 001 infiltrant has a low odor, making its use in soaking and large quantities more comfortable.

It does not leave white residues on objects, as can be the case with other cyanoacrylate adhesives.

How to apply Krylex KI 001 infiltrant?

The Krylex KI 001 infiltrant, like other cyanoacrylate adhesives, needs to be applied on a slightly damp surface to initiate polymerization.

It is also important to ensure that the ambient temperature is not too low at the time of use, as this slows down the polymerization process.

    • Ready to use and requiring no prior mixing, it can be sprayed, brushed on, or used in a soaking bath.
