      What are the characteristics of Loctite HY 4070 adhesive?

The Loctite HY 4070 (also known as Loctite 4070) is a two-component adhesive based on an innovative hybrid technology that combines the benefits of cyanoacrylate and acrylic adhesives.

This hybrid adhesive is a cyanoacrylate (10:1 ratio) that primarily allows for structural bonding with a very fast cure time and can fill gaps up to 5 mm, which is crucial.

It is suitable for a wide variety of substrates (including metals, high surface energy plastics (ABS, PC, etc.), elastomers, and wood) for permanent assembly. However, it is not recommended for bonding difficult plastics such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and Teflon (PTFE).

Its working time is rapid (approximately 4 to 5 minutes), achieving functional strength after 1 hour and final strength after 24 hours, similar to any adhesive.

Its resistance to moisture, UV light, chemicals, and temperature (from -40°C to 100°C) is a significant advantage.

Another noteworthy benefit immediately visible on the packaging is the presence of a single chemical pictogram indicating that this product is harmful and irritating with repeated and prolonged contact, potentially leading to inflammatory reactions on skin or mucous membranes.

The pictograms for “hazardous to the environment,” “hazardous to humans,” “corrosive,” and “flammable” are not present.

Before polymerization, which occurs at room temperature, the mixed components have a gel-like consistency that prevents the adhesive from running, even on vertical surfaces.

This adhesive is available in an 11 g packaging, which includes:

• The 11 g adhesive cartridge

• The 10:1 piston

• 4 mixing nozzles

Before use, ensure that the surfaces to be assembled or repaired are thoroughly cleaned to optimize adhesion.

Here are the steps to follow for optimal and safe use of this product:

	Insert the piston into the cartridge
	Remove the cap and press the piston BEFORE ATTACHING THE NOZZLE to clearly visualize that both components are extruded simultaneously.
	Attach the mixing nozzle. Press the piston to extrude the adhesive onto a separate sheet. Once a small bead is extruded, it can be used. Due to the ultra-fast setting time, the adhesive will harden quickly in the nozzle. If you no longer need the adhesive, leave the nozzle attached as it serves as a cap. When you need to use it again, install a new nozzle.

• Demonstration of the resistance of Loctite 4070 used to assemble two plates serving as a connection device between a locomotive and a 208-ton freight train. 

The two plates were cleaned, lightly sanded, and then bonded together with three grams of Loctite 4070. Loctite engineers then waited 1 hour before installing the device. The freight train was then able to be pulled by the locomotive under extreme conditions with significant loads, demonstrating incredible strength and durability of the assembly.
