Description of SIKA 205 primer
The SIKA 205 product is an adhesion promoter developed by SIKA. It is known by two names that highlight its dual functions:
SIKA CLEANER 205: This product is used as a degreaser before sealing or assembling operations on closed and non-porous surfaces such as rigid PVC, painted or unpainted metals, laminates, ceramics, tiles, stone, plastics, screen-printed glass, and painted surfaces. Caution is advised with painted surfaces, as the isopropanol in SIKA 205 may cause color change or dissolve the paint.
SIKA ACTIVATOR 205: This function is designed to activate treated surfaces, enhancing the adhesion of SIKAFLEX sealants and adhesives that can be applied immediately afterward. It should not be used to clean or smooth sealants after application.
The SIKA 205 product is versatile and multi-purpose but should not be applied to porous surfaces, as it may not dry completely, preventing the adhesive or sealant from properly curing.
It is frequently used in the nautical sector before caulking operations with sealants on a boat's deck or the installation of portholes, for example.
SIKA 205 should be applied at a minimum temperature of 5°C, ensuring the bottle is shaken well before use. If the solution begins to coagulate in the bottle, it is no longer usable.
It is advisable to keep the original container closed to prevent solvent evaporation.
