Product description
Anaerobic adhesives are mainly used for threadlocking and gasket sealing. The main users of these adhesives are companies’ maintenance departments.
The basic principle of anaerobic adhesives is to polymerize in the absence of air and in contact with metal. The bottles or containers of anaerobic adhesive are half filled with air and are air-permeable to prevent polymerization. Anaerobic adhesives therefore only work on metal surfaces with gaps of less than 250 µm.
4 parameters have an influence on the selection of the suitable model :
- The type of surface to bond (active metals = fast polymerisation or passive metals = slow polymerisation)
- Assembly gaps (in general more of a gap for bigger diameters)
- The operating temperature
- The roughness of the substrate
Active metals : Brass, Bronze, Copper, commercial aluminium, Iron, Manganese, Nickel, construction steel, ferrous steel....
Passive metals : Pure aluminium, iron, Stainless steel, Cadmium, Gold, Titanium, Silver, Plated, Anodised, Zinc, Chromated steel...
Some fields of application of anaerobic adhesive ?
The 3 fields of application for anaerobic adhesives are :
- Threadlocking :
The most common application is to prevent loosening when a threaded system is subjected to shocks or vibrations. The anaerobic also protects against corrosion. This adhesive allows you to avoid traditional solutions (lock washer, cotters, pins, fan, tight fitting…). Depending on the references offered, disassembly may be possible since there are three disassembly strengths: low, medium and high.
- Sealing :
These products can also be used for fastening and protection against corrosion of metallic systems. It enables you to replace conventional mechanical systems (Stapling, Bracing, Welding, Stamping…). Indeed the sealing range allows for a reliable fixing press fit with a good temperature resistance.
- Water tightness :
Used for 2 types of application: waterproofing flat surfaces or the sealing of threaded connections (screws). The use of anaerobic adhesive for sealing enables you to avoid conventional mechanical solutions (PTFE gaskets, Oakum, Gasket paste…). The seal is reliable, easy to do and can resist high pressure, shocks and vibrations.

Some tips for choosing your anaerobic adhesive ?
- For threadlocking, the colour of the product indicates its features (low, medium or high strength).
- To compensate for big gaps, use a high level of viscosity.
Some examples of applications of anaerobic adhesive ?
- Sealing of threaded connections in a brake system
- Threadlocking in motors or gearboxes
