What are the characteristics of SIKAFAST 555 L05 (formerly 5215)?
The SIKAFAST 555 L05 is a two-component acrylic adhesive developed by SIKA in 2013, offering:
Rapid radical polymerization
Lower odor than traditional acrylic adhesives
Acid and solvent-free composition
SIKAFAST 555 L05 adheres well to various materials such as metals, glass, wood, high-energy surface plastics, and coatings, suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
However, it is not recommended for non-polar plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene, where adhesion may not be sufficient.
Applications
This adhesive is ideally suited for non-visible assemblies in transport equipment, construction components, industrial equipment, and sheet metal work.
Product features and client benefits
As a structural adhesive, its shear and tensile strength at 23°C, 50% relative humidity exceeds 7 MPa.
Room temperature polymerization starts immediately upon mixing with a static mixer nozzle, and full cure takes about 5 minutes.
Thixotropic consistency allows easy application, and it is non-flammable.
The joint thickness should range between 0.5 mm and 3 mm to avoid excessive heat that could damage the assembly.
Key features at room temperature :
Open time: maximum available time for assembly after adhesive application, about 5 minutes.
Handling time: the period post-application when the assembly should be left undisturbed to reach 80% of final strength, approximately 15 minutes.
These parameters vary with temperature; optimal application temperature is between 15 and 25°C. Higher temperatures shorten open and handling times, and vice versa.
The 50 mL cartridges have a 15-month shelf life at room temperature, reducing waste from expired stock.
How to apply?
Ensure clean surfaces free from dust and contaminants. Minimal surface preparation is required—no primer application needed.
Necessary equipment includes:
SIKA manual or pneumatic glue gun (CTR 50)
10:1 piston for component extrusion
Mixing nozzle for proper blending of both components
For application, this glue gun operates similarly to a traditional EPX gun.
