Overview

          Description of SikaFast 555 L05 (Formerly 5215)

The SIKAFAST 555 L05 is a two-component acrylic adhesive developed by SIKA in 2013, offering:

The SikaFast 555 adhesives have a relatively long open time, between 3 and 10 minutes depending on the version, followed by short curing times for quick assembly.

SikaFast 555 L05 adheres to a wide range of materials, including metals, glass, wood, high-energy plastics, and coatings, for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Not Recommended for non-polar plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene due to insufficient adhesion.

          Applications

    Fields of application

    • Household Appliances
    • Furniture and Fittings
    • Windows and Doors
    • Bus, Train, and Utility Vehicle Manufacturing
    • Automotive Industry
    • Boat and Shipbuilding
    • Signage and Traffic Management Systems
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Flag Manufacturing

Ideal for bonding non-visible assemblies in transport equipment, construction components, industrial equipment, and metalwork.

    Suitable materials

    • Aluminum (Raw or Anodized)
    • Steel
    • Stainless Steel
    • Paints or Coatings
    • Glass
    • Plastics (ABS, Rigid PVC, PU, Fiber-Reinforced Plastics, PC, PMMA)

          Product features and client benefits

As a structural adhesive, its shear and tensile strength at 23°C, 50% relative humidity exceeds 7 MPa.

    • Room temperature polymerization starts immediately upon mixing with a static mixer nozzle, and full cure takes about 5 minutes.

    • Thixotropic consistency allows easy application, and it is non-flammable.

The joint thickness should range between 0.5 mm and 3 mm to avoid excessive heat that could damage the assembly.

Key features at room temperature :

    • Open time: maximum available time for assembly after adhesive application, about 5 minutes.

    • Handling time: the period post-application when the assembly should be left undisturbed to reach 80% of final strength, approximately 15 minutes.

These parameters vary with temperature; optimal application temperature is between 15 and 25°C. Higher temperatures shorten open and handling times, and vice versa.

The 50 mL cartridges have a 15-month shelf life at room temperature, reducing waste from expired stock.

          How to apply?

Ensure clean surfaces free from dust and contaminants. Minimal surface preparation is required—no primer application needed.

    Necessary equipment includes:

    • SIKA manual or pneumatic glue gun (CTR 50)

    • 10:1 piston for component extrusion

    • Mixing nozzle for proper blending of both components

For application, this glue gun operates similarly to a traditional EPX gun.

    Steps to apply

    1. Sanding: Remove paint, rust, etc., using 80/100 grit sandpaper. For surface oxidation (e.g., on raw aluminum), use a fine abrasive pad. Clean sanding dust.
    2. Cleaning: Remove release agents, lubricants, grease, and dust. Apply an adhesion promoter with lint-free paper. Evaporation time: 1 minute at temperatures above 15°C.
    3. Application: Place the SikaFast 555 L05 in the glue gun and attach the static mixer. Apply the adhesive in a continuous bead or spots at least 2 mm thick.
    4. Assembly: Position the materials and press the assembly. Ensure the adhesive layer is at least 0.5 mm thick. The bonded assembly can withstand stress after 15 minutes.

    Tips and advice :

    • Note the working time (open time) of 3, 5, or 10 minutes.
    • The cartridge remains reusable after use: leave the static mixer attached and replace it for subsequent applications to save time and adhesive.
    • While the SikaFast 555 L05 is uncured, excess adhesive can be removed with a dry cloth.
