      What are the characteristics of the DP 8405?

The 3M DP8805 NS is a new two-component acrylic adhesive developed by 3M in 2014. One of its unique features is its new chemical formulation, which provides a very low odor compared to traditional acrylic adhesives. This significantly improves the user's protection and working conditions.

Another key characteristic is its twice faster performance build-up than standard acrylic adhesives, while maintaining the same open time.

It is tough, viscoelastic, and demonstrates high peel and shear strength, coupled with exceptional impact resistance. Its strong thermal shock resistance allows the final assembly to endure even greater stress.

Its work time is very short (even shorter than the DP 8405 NS), and the time before structural bonding (the time needed to reach 6.9 MPa in shear strength) is only 8 to 10 minutes.

This adhesive offers a significant time-saving and productivity gain, combined with outstanding technical efficiency.

It is suitable for permanent assemblies and adheres well to materials like high surface energy plastics (ABS, PC, PMMA), PVC, metals, wood, and powder-coated surfaces.

However, it is not recommended for use on low surface energy plastics (PP, PE, etc.) or PTFE (Teflon).

It is flammable and UL certified.

The 250 µm glass beads it contains help to easily adjust the thickness of the final adhesive joint.

Its 18-month shelf life at room temperature (compared to 6 months at 4°C for traditional acrylic adhesives) helps significantly reduce costs related to the disposal of expired stock.

For a longer work time, you may consider using the DP 8810 NS, which shares the same technical characteristics as the DP 8805 NS.

      How to apply it

The application of DP 8805 NS is done using a manual EPX applicator gun with a 10:1 piston for 45 ml cartridges, or a pneumatic applicator for 490 ml cartridges.

A static mixer nozzle is attached to ensure a homogeneous mix of the two components.

Once these elements are set up, it is crucial to thoroughly clean the surface to remove any grease, dirt, or dust. Proper surface preparation will guarantee optimal adhesion.
